5 Tips For Getting Rid Of Racoons

Don’t allow raccoons to terrorize your home!

Although they make look adorable, raccoons can be a true menace to your property. They can wreak havoc and cause you all sorts of problems. Not only can they cause damage to your home and yard, but they are also a safety hazard. Many homeowners don’t know how to address their raccoon problem! With that said, here are 5 tips for getting rid of raccoons from your property!

Identify Entry Points

Do you have raccoons in your attic? If this is the case, you need to survey your property and try to determine all possible entry points. You should be looking for things such as soffits, overhanging trees, and gaps in roof corners. Once you have determined how they are making their way into your attic, you can then take the necessary steps to resolve your issue.

Raccoon Deterrents

There are all sorts of raccoon deterrents available at most hardware stores. Before you buy anything, be sure to check out online reviews of the products. There are also inexpensive home remedies you can make as well.

Consider Your Trash Cans

If raccoons are constantly finding a way into your garbage, there a few preventative measures you can take. For one, you may want to consider bringing your trash bins indoors. Another effective measure is to strap down the lids of your trash bins with bungee cords.

Remove Attractants

There are all sorts of things that could be attracting raccoons into your property. Many pet owners make the mistake of leaving their pets food outside overnight. Another common raccoon attractant is bird seed. If possible, try to keep bird feeders out a raccoon’s reach.

Trapping

If you want to go the trapping route, you will want to get a large steel cage trap. You want to make sure it is sturdy and you place it in a shady place. You also need to make sure that you place the trap on a surface level. If you state permits trapping and relocating, you want to be sure to release the animal ten miles away from your home so there is no chance it will return.
